Monitoring our impact on the environment enjoys the highest priority at Erdinger Weissbräu - not only as a means of raising acceptance and credibility among customers, but also as an expression of sound commercial practice.
Observance of legal obligations and conservation of resources are of the utmost importance to us at Erdinger Weissbräu.
When dealing with waste residue, we apply the following priority list:
- Avoidance
- Recycling
- Disposal
An environmental management concept ensures observance of environmental protection measures. These range from the purchase phase, where even at this early stage ecological considerations are applied, right up to the consumer.
Examples of environmental protection measures:
- Use of hops only from a registered grower subject to independent monitoring
- As far as possible, no pesticide use on growing hops
- Extensive water-saving measures in all sectors of the brewery
- Disposal of spent hops via local farmers for use as high-grade animal feed
- Disposal of surplus yeast for the production of foodstuffs, pharmaceuticals, etc
- Disposal of waste water via our own anaerobic effluent-treatment plant
- Composting of kieselguhr in accordance with the organic waste and composting ordinance
- Use of a special combination of cleaning and disinfection agents in order to ensure optimum breakdown in our own clarification plant
- Operation of a central cleaning-agent storage tank in order to dispense with smaller packaging units
- Use of modular crates as reusable packaging units
- Use of labels not containing heavy metals
